Kathleen A. O'Connor

A native Houstonian and experienced trial lawyer, Kathleen has more than 20 years of litigation experience in courts across the State of Texas, representing large companies, small businesses and individuals in wide variety of disputes. The majority of her practice has been focused on construction, insurance defense, and employment matters.

Kathleen’s representative clients include Fortune 500 companies, national and local construction companies, medical device manufacturers, corporate clients, and insurance companies.

Kathleen is a former assistant district attorney who successfully carries her trial skills into the civil courthouse. She is proud to call herself a “Texas trial lawyer,” having tried too many cases to count to juries, judges, and arbitration panels on a wide variety of business disputes (e.g. breach of contract, covenants not to compete, professional negligence, trade secret appropriation), as well as, construction cases, personal injury cases, mass torts, medical malpractice and general negligence.

In addition to her Texas state law license, Kathleen is admitted to practice in all federal district courts in Texas, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Kathleen has handled and argued appeals successfully in both the state and federal court. She has successfully defended verdicts before the Fifth Circuit and made law in the area of ERISA.

Kathleen is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Houston Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, and Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit.

Kathleen is a certified mediator.

She is the proud mother of two sons, both graduates of St. Thomas High School, Texas Tech University, and South Texas College of Law Houston.

In her spare time, Kathleen enjoys exercise and volunteering as a parent advocate for special needs children.

Representative Matters:

  • Successfully represented a former employee in a breach of fiduciary duty claim and his counterclaim for ERISA benefits;

  • Successfully prosecuted a breach of a non-compete agreement and theft of trade secrets;

  • Successfully resolved a homeowner and civic association deed restriction dispute on multiple occasions;

  • Successfully prosecuted a multi-million dollar construction contract dispute;

  • Successfully defended trucking company against wrongful death claims on multiple occasions;

  •  Successfully defended apartment owner against personal injury claims on multiple occasions;

  • Successfully prosecuted bond claims for contractors and subcontractors on multiple occasions;

  •  AIA contract draft negotiations; and

  •  Successfully prosecuted and defended construction defect claims.
